I and my poker friends often (like couple of times in a month), make late night poker excursions. One balmy night saw us sitting at a limit Texas Hold’Em table discussing poker strategy. In between his mixed drinks and the game, Parrot also had this no-control giggling habit that seemed to happen whenever he raised. And he raised almost every hand always sipping his drink before he raised. We quickly caught on that if Parrot were to accompany his giggling with the “Monster” when he raised, it was pretty certain he had two cards under 10 that were un-suited.

Parrot was raising and re-raising to glory all the time giggling like he was sipping laughing gas or something. On a final board of Q-K-2-8-8, at showdown parrot turns over his hand, stands up and looking like Moses on the rock, announces with gusto that he had a Straight! All of us including the dealer did a double take and quickly re-checked the board.

With great care like he was explaining to a little school boy, the dealer explained to Parrot that A-3 cannot make a straight and that given the board, there was no way he could make a straight. Misjudging the situation further, Parrot again stands up and yells “floor” and we all stared at him open mouthed. Parrot really thought he had a straight Queen to three.
