Learn about pro player erik seidel
Erik Seidel is a professional poker player based in the United States and sponsored by fulltiltpoker.com. Born in New York in 1959, Erik “Sly” Seidel, as many others, did not embrace the game of poker as his first love. Instead, he was a backgammon player, and after eight years he finally moved on to… playing the stock market! Only after that he ended up playing poker. He started out at the Mayfair club, alongside Howard Lederer and Dan Harrington. Switching to poker was a bold, smart move, seeing that he now totals $10.1 million in earnings from the game alone.
Erik’s first major tournament was the 1988 World Series of Poker main event, where he came in second. Four years later, he would win his first WSOP bracelet, the first of eight:
His first win, as mentioned, came in 1992, in a game of Limit Hold ‘em. He won $168,000 from that.
He followed that with another big win, in 1993, in an Omaha 8 or better tournament, cashing in $94,000.
Erik wasn’t going to stop, and in 1994 he won another Limit Hold ‘em tournament, worth $210,000.
After a four-year pause, he won another WSOP bracelet in 1998, earning a little over $132,000 in a Deuce To Seven Draw.
2001 came with yet another WSOP bracelet in a No Limit Hold ‘em tournament, where Erik earned over $411,000.
Erik won his first Pot Limit Omaha Tournament in 2003, adding $146,100 to his winnings.
In 2005, he won another No Limit Hold ‘em event, cashing in $611,795.
In 2007, Erik managed to earn his latest WSoP bracelet, and also add $538,000 to his account, when he won a “Deuce to Seven Draw Lowball” Tournament.
Erik Seidel is currently playing online poker at one of the best internet gambling sites called Full Tilt Poker, and he is also a member of the “Full Tilt Team”, which is composed of himself and thirteen other poker stars: John Juanda, Phil Ivey, Jennifer Harman, Tom Dwan, Howard Lederer, Mike Matusow, Phil Gordon, Erick Lindgren, Phil Gordon Patrick Antonius, Allen Cunningham, Chris Ferguson, Andy Bloch and Gus Hansen. Erik is also involved in helping others, as he posts articles on his website (www.erikseidel.com), in which he gives tips to amateurs.
Apart from poker, which he admits he has no interest in writing about, Erik is a big fan of music. On his website he has dedicated an entire section to his music, as he admits it’s his “part time job”.
When asked what advice he would give to anybody aspiring to be a poker player, Erik said: “I would say take things slow. I see many young players getting ahead of themselves and these games take time to learn. Poker has a way of deceiving people into believing they are better than they are. Try to be objective about your relative skills as you progress and develop.”
8 World Series of Poker bracelets. One World Poker Tour Championship. Over ten million dollars earned in his career. Top ten all time money lost for the WSoP. These stats need absolutely no commentary, as they speak for themselves. As they speak, they reveal the traits of one of the greatest poker players in the world: Erik Seidel.
