Although the buzz word in today’s world has been recession, it hasn’t seemed to affect the poker community for the WSOP.
A total amount of prize money given away this year is over $111,626,000 USD, and most players have qualified playing online poker games.
With events still finishing this week and the Main Event starting on the 3rd it looks like this year’s final prize pool could reach higher than last years prize pool of $190,000,000+
With thousands of players playing the many events of this year’s WSOP moving up ranks is not an easy thing to do.
The ranked players of Bluff Magazine’s Poker Power Rankings are derived from the Player of the Year formula.
Players receive full rank points for all tournaments that have occurred during the past year and half-points for the year before.
The 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP), the biggest marquee event of the year is officially in full swing at Las Vegas’ Rio Hotel and Casino.
Thousands of players from all over the world have descended into ‘Sin City’ with the hope of becoming poker’s next household icon and looking to earn one of the coveted bracelets that are awarded to each winner of the event.
A couple of weeks ago, SunPoker.com, said that the time is ripe for the first German bracelet winner.
Congratulations to Carsten Joh, who DID win the first bracelet for Germany! Carsten won Event #51, the $1’500 NL Hold’em tournament with the winner taking home over $650’000.
This was one of the biggest events this year, with 2781 players participating. Carsten Joh said in an interview after his success, that he just wanted to win a tournament!
